Summer: cool, soft and refined

The summer type is usually characterised by a cool, soft and slightly greyed look. Colours that are not too harsh or too warm often match best: think dusty pink, lavender, grey-blue, raspberry, soft navy and muted green shades. How to recognise the summer world

Summer is all about coolness and softness. The natural colours of skin, hair and eyes are often less golden and less high-contrast than with Spring or Winter. The 12-season model includes Light Summer, True Summer and Soft Summer, so not every summer type has to be equally light or equally cool.

Huid

From light to medium and sometimes deeper, usually with a cool or neutral-cool impression. Pink, beige-pink or soft olive nuances can occur.

Haar

Often ash blonde, dark blonde, ash brown or cool medium brown. Darker hair also occurs; what matters more is that there is little gold, copper or red in the natural hair colour.

Ogen

Common colours are blue-grey, grey-blue, soft green, grey-green, cool hazel and cool brown. The eye colour often looks soft rather than strikingly bright.

Contrast

Usually low to medium. Light Summer is lighter, True Summer more distinctly cool and Soft Summer even softer and more greyed. They all share a subtler contrast than Winter.

Fashion colours that enhance the summer world

Choose colours that look cool, soft and somewhat muted. Blue shades, dusty pink, mauve, lavender, raspberry, grey-blue and soft green shades often work beautifully. For neutrals, cool taupe, pebble, soft navy, denim blue, cool grey and off-white are strong choices.

Haarkleuren

If you want to colour your hair, go for ash blonde, cool dark blonde, beige ash blonde, cool medium brown or soft ash brown rather than golden blonde, copper, honey or warm chestnut shades.

Sieraden & accessoires

Silver and white gold are often the easiest match. Soft rose gold can also work beautifully on some summer subtypes. For glasses, grey, mauve, raspberry, cool brown and navy are often calmer than harsh black.

Liever vermijden

Strongly warm and yellow shades such as bright orange, mustard, golden yellow, terracotta and warm camel can disrupt the cool softness. Very bright neon colours and harsh black-and-white contrasts can also overpower more easily.

Dusty pink, soft cool pink, mauve and muted raspberry often give a natural flush.

A colour type is a tool, not a rule

Seasonal colour analysis is a styling method, not an exact science. So always look at the effect on your own face in daylight. Are you between two colour worlds? Then a combination of both can look very natural.
