Familiar in the mirror

When your skin feels different from how your make-up looks.

Maybe you're happy with your foundation colour, but you still notice dry patches on your cheeks or beside your nose. Or your face feels so tight after cleansing that you immediately want to apply cream again. That's a good moment to calmly go over your habits and product textures.

You don't need to put together an elaborate ritual. Look at how you cleanse, which skincare you use and how much make-up you apply to each area. Let your own wishes guide you: from a hint of colour to more coverage in specific areas.

Getting to know how your skin feels

How can you tell your skin is dry?

With dry skin, the outer layer of the skin contains less moisture. As a result, your skin can feel less supple and look a little rough or flaky. Dryness occurs at all ages and can vary by area and season.

A tight or taut feeling

You may notice your skin feels tight, especially after washing. Pay attention to the water temperature, your cleanser and when you apply skincare afterwards.

Visible flakes and rough areas

Small flakes may stand out on your cheeks or around your mouth. Make-up can look different there than on the rest of your face. Look at those areas separately when applying.

Differences throughout your day

Cold wind, dry indoor air, frequent washing or long contact with hot water can all play a part. Make a note of when you notice dryness before you switch lots of products at once.

01

Cleanse calmly and briefly

Choose lukewarm water, a mild cleanser and gentle movements. Pat dry with a towel. A tight, squeaky-clean feeling is not the goal of cleansing.

02

Moisturise after washing

Apply your cream while your skin is still slightly damp. See whether a creamy or lighter texture feels comfortable and adjust the amount accordingly.

03

Change one step at a time

Keep your basics familiar when you try something new. That way, you can better tell how a different cleanser, cream or way of applying make-up works for you.

Skincare from our shop

A cleanser and a cream as your starting point.

These products offer different textures to choose from. Combine the cleansing milk with one skincare product. A fluid, Day & Night Cream and Intensive Repair Crème are alternatives; you don't need to layer them on top of each other.

Choosing by texture

What do you like on your skin?

A rich cream can feel nice on dry cheeks, while you might prefer something lighter for other areas. Compare the Intensive Repair Crème with the Sensitive Repair Fluid. The Day & Night Cream is an option if you like using one cream for two moments of the day.

Let your skincare settle for a moment before applying make-up. If there's still a lot of product on the surface, wait before applying powder. Your own trusted cream can also serve as a base.

The four selected skincare products contain fragrance. Is your skin sensitive to that? Then stick to a fragrance-free skincare product that your skin tolerates well and check the full ingredients when comparing.

Mineral make-up and application

Work with small amounts on the areas you choose.

Skincare, choice of colour and the way you apply your make-up each deserve attention. Below you'll find a foundation as a colour example, a brush and an optional finish. Try a small amount on your skin first.

A simple morning

From cleansing to your own make-up look.

Use this order as a guide. You decide the amounts and any extra make-up steps yourself, depending on how your skin feels that day.

01 · Cleanse

Keep cleansing mild

Gently massage a small amount of cleansing milk over your face and remove it according to the instructions. Use lukewarm water when rinsing and pat dry with a soft towel.

02 · Skincare

Choose your cream or fluid

Spread your chosen skincare over your skin. Use what you need on dry areas and let everything absorb. Choose a product texture you already like rather than layering several creams.

03 · Foundation

Measure out from the lid

Pick up a little powder from the lid with your brush and tap off the excess. Apply with light pressure. Check area by area whether you want more coverage and keep rough or flaky areas as light as possible.

04 · Finish

Assess your finish area by area

Only use extra powder where you like the finish. A little Glow can suit one area, while you leave another area unpowdered. Check the transition to your neck in daylight.

When foundation clings to dry flakes

Measure out your foundation area by area.

Dry bits can become more visible when there's a lot of product on them. So start with your skincare and then decide how much foundation you want to use. An extra layer over your whole face is rarely needed if you only want to cover a small colour difference.

Use your foundation brush with a light hand. Don't keep going over the same rough patch. First look at the overall result from a normal distance from the mirror before adding a little more powder.

Points of attention when applying
  • Let the base under your make-up absorb first.
  • Spread a small amount of powder over your brush.
  • Work with soft, short movements.
  • Limit extra coverage to the areas you want.
  • Feel free to leave a dry patch without finishing powder.

Later in the day

Take a look before you touch up.

Notice a dry patch halfway through the day? Check whether you need extra product or whether powder has actually built up. If needed, very gently blend out the existing product with a clean brush.

You can also choose to leave that area alone. Make a note of what you notice and adjust your preparation next time: a different amount of cream, a little more time between steps or less powder in that area.

Questions from your daily routine

Small choices for dry skin.

Should I use a rich cream everywhere?

Look at your face area by area. Maybe you like a rich texture on your cheeks and a lighter amount around your nose. Choose based on how it feels, not just on the ‘dry skin’ label.

Do I also need a serum?

A serum is a possible addition. Start with a cleanser and one skincare product you enjoy using. Only add something once you know what's still missing from your routine.

Is a Glow finish always the best choice?

That depends on your preference and how the powder sits on your skin. Use a little at first and look at the overall result. You can leave out finishing powder on dry areas altogether.

Can I scrub away flakes?

Treat rough patches with care. Rubbing hard, scratching or scrubbing daily can irritate dry skin. Choose a mild base and leave loose flakes alone as much as possible.

Does natural also mean fragrance-free?

These terms mean different things. The skincare products mentioned above contain fragrance. Check the ingredients on the product page and take into account what your own skin tolerates well.

When should I talk to a professional about dryness?

Do you have persistent itching, pain, small cracks or a burning sensation? Talk to your GP about it. For choosing a foundation colour, a brush or a finish, you're welcome to come to us.

End your day calmly

Give removing your make-up some attention too.

Take your time removing your make-up at the end of the day. Spread your cleanser with gentle movements and follow the instructions for use. Then gently pat your face dry.

Apply your chosen cream or fluid. If you like a richer texture in the evening, you can opt for the Intensive Repair Crème at that point. Keep the rest of the routine simple and adjust it if the weather or how your skin feels changes.
